Sloppy Joes
Sloppy Joes are so easy and can be made on the fly, using pantry ingredients. These are also easy on the budget for feeding large crowds. This is a single recipe and will feed around 4-6 people—you can easily double and triple it. These are also great made a day or two ahead and heated up to serve. The trick to sloppy joes is that you can make them how you want. This recipe is one you can follow lightly!
Directions:
Start by dicing the onions and bell peppers. Sauté the onions for a few minutes before putting in the ground beef. (I just put in the whole pound and mash it around with a fork.) Cook the ground beef, onions and peppers together, just before the beef is done add the mushrooms, continue cooking till beef is done.
Add the cans of sauce and tomatoes. Stir all together.
Now add the condiments to taste. I also love to add red pepper flakes to this and a little oregano. It’s really about what you like and what you have available. Sometimes I replace bell pepper with a can of green chiles. I love making these and playing around with the recipe.
Have fun with this economical, crowd pleasing recipe!
Tips:
If you use Manwich then you don’t need to add any extra sugar. If you use tomato sauce then a teaspoon of brown sugar is a helpful ingredient. The ketchup also adds just a touch of sweetness as well.
You can substitue Knorr brand bullion for the salt.
