What’s up with the weather?

Farmers and Ranchers are always dependent on mother nature! Here at Cross E Ranch it’s no different. We are unique in that we invite the public out to enjoy the ranch. That means that when the weather changes it affects a lot more people than just us ranchers!

For the most part the weather is just part of the ranch experience, and we don’t worry much about it. However, it seems to happen about once a festival that we must close for weather.

If you are worried about the weather, you can always check our website for details about the weather and how it is affecting the ranch.

Here’s some of the different types of weather and how we deal with it during the festivals:

Rain:

  • light rain, no problem

  • raining pretty good, we close our slides, jump pads, and rock wall.

  • been rainy for a while, come ready for a little mud…wear “farm” clothes.

  • heavy rain, we close (we will give rain checks to all ticket holders)

Cold:

  • just cold--no rain, snow, or wind, we stay open… dress warm and you’ll have a great time.

  • cold with rain or wind, we close (we offer rain checks)

Wind:

  • The wind is enemy #1.

  • Light to medium wind, we stay open.

  • Strong wind, we close (offer rain checks.) We close all the play equipment for safety reasons.

Because it takes so much staff to run Cross E Ranch we must decide to close a day before the closure. It has happened before that the weather wasn’t as bad as the forecast. However, once we decide to close and call off staff, we can’t all the sudden open if the weather changes.

If the weather suddenly changes once we are open, we may close and just offer a rain checks.

Spring is a little different than fall because in the spring the animals are sensitive to bad weather. In bad weather the babies just want to hang out under their heat lamps and nap…don’t blame them one bit!

In the fall a cold evening by the fire pits with a hot chocolate and warm donut is fun!

We will always try our best to communicate closures. It’s a good practice to check our website before heading out to the ranch.

We love all the weather (well, maybe not the wind.) It’s needed to grow crops and make everything beautiful! We will always try our best to make the right decisions for our staff, customers, and animals regarding the weather.
